Unfair 'Media' Trial: Rhea to SC

On 14th June 2020, Sushant Singh Rajput died due to suicide. He was found hanging in his Bandra Residence. About two days ago, Sushant’s father K.K. Singh had filed an FIR against Rhea Chakraborty and 6 other people including her family members. Rhea was Sushant’s girlfriend. According to the six-page complaint, Rhea had harassed, tortured and extorted money from him. The actress and others have been booked under Section 341, 342, 380, 406, 420, 306, 506, 120B of the Indian Penal Code.

After the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed an fir against Rhea, the matter is under extensive media coverage. Rhea, her brother Showik, Sushant's ex-manager Shruti Modi, Sushant's flatmate have been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Mumbai in case of money laundering. Investigations lasted up to 8 hours for Rhea, and for 18 hours for Showik, few days ago. Today, Rhea has again summoned by the Enforcement Directorate, Mumbai.

Amidst the same, Rhea has filed a fresh plea in Supreme Court of India stating that the media covering Sushant's death case have unfairly held her guilty for causing the death. Rhea has further filed a fresh affidavit stating that the Bihar Police doesn't have the jurisdiction to investigate the matter, henceforth the transfer of case to CBI from Bihar Police is also out of power.

It was further contended that Actors Sameer Sharma and Ashutosh Bhakre have also died by suicide in the recent past, yet no media is focusing on that matter since all the attention is on this particular case. It was said that in case of Noida-Double-Murder and 2G the accused where pronounced guilty in the beginning in the similar manner and later were found to be innocent. Due to extreme media attention in the manner, Rhea is facing trauma and her privacy rights are being infringed.

The Supreme Court of India in Delhi will hear the matter tomorrow, August 11.
