Name of the Intern-

-Abhinav Bishnoi

College and Year of the Intern-

-Institute of Law, Nirma University, VIII year

In which firm/organisation did you intern. Kindly tell us something about the firm-

-I interned at Numen Law Office, Delhi under Advocate on Record Mr George Thomas. It is a new firm which was established in 2019. It has diversified areas of legal practice and a team of talented lawyers. They also have another office in Mumbai. So, one can even apply for an internship there as well, as per convenience.

What was the duration of the Internship and daily timings?

- I did a 1-month internship and there was no daily timing as such because it was a virtual internship, but rather I was provided with different assignments which needed to be done in a specified time, generally 2-3 days. And Sunday happens to be off.

How did you apply and secure internship?

- I mailed them my CV and cover letter on their official email id, which is provided on their official website and later called them. Afterwards, I went through 2 interview rounds, one was general and the other one was specific.

What are the core areas of law dealt in the firm/organisation?

- Arbitration, banking and finance, criminal litigation, commercial disputes, competition and anti-trust, real estate, co-operative societies, insolvency and bankruptcy and taxation.

What were the main tasks assigned to you?

- My main task was to read the case laws, mostly civil in nature, and to brief sir regarding it along with my opinion. I was supposed to tell the situation persisting prior to the judgement and what possible consequences it might lead to. While briefing the facts, sections, argument advance and judgement needs to be on the tips.

How comfortable did you find the work environment?

- It was a very comfortable environment to work in. Sir provided me with adequate time to prepare for my work and helped me to understand the complexity of the laws. At no point, it was overexerting or even slacking but an adequate work pressure to learn the nuances of the law.

Were there any specific breaks given. If yes, what were the timings?

- No there was no such specific break provided.

Did you attend any Courts?

- Yes, I did attend the virtual Supreme Court proceedings.

What were the perks? Was stipend provided. If yes, how much?

- No, there was no stipend provided.

Were there any things that should be improved?

- Internship is all about gaining practical knowledge but on a virtual platform, it becomes difficult to reap such benefit. But that is altogether a different issue. The firm has helped me a lot in understanding different legal issues and how to read and understand a law.
